There's this one website I've been going to for a while, and I've become more socially conscious because of it. The only problem is that it's opened my eyes to the vast catastrophe that is politics.
Anways, here is a posting I did on the site. I'm not sure if anyone will read it though, so I thought I'd better post it here:
Why the hell are we still electing politicians? I give you an alternative: Teachers
Just think about it: it is a politician's job to stay in power. Regardless of what political party they belong to, they will make deals under the table, lie, cheat and steal to maintain their precious power. They do not really care about the common good, or about society as a whole; nor have most ever proven to do so. They are weened from lawyers, one of the most untrustworthy and hated professions known to man, yet somehow we find ourselves perplexed that they would dare to lie to us and have less than our best interests at heart.
But where else would one find smart people? Not only that, but where would one find smart, caring, problem-solving, community-oriented people who have years of experience working with the public, along with thousands of past clients and hundreds of co-workers willing to vouch for their reputation as honest, trustworthy, intelligent citizens who have already more than proven their ability to act as caretakers of the public?
Simple: teachers.
"But teachers don't know anything about government herp derp!"
Teachers are the most intelligent, community-minded individuals, hands down. They are far more likely to be concerned and knowledgeable about the common good than any other profession, and have a vast network of unbiased advisors to pull from should the need arise for them to deal with 'government' issues such as education, social welfare, military spending, business, city planning, etc. Even just selecting the top ten teachers from a school district, and choosing a few of them to be a mayor or congressman/congresswoman would drastically change a city, state, or nation for the better. Issues like education would no longer be on the back-burner, and while some might overdose on the power, common sense dictates that electing respected teachers to govern, as opposed to people who create lies for a living, will create more positive results. Just think about it: if you had to choose just one profession to take care of your children should you die (much less your own city and nation while you are alive), would you choose a lawyer, or a teacher?
No, I don't know anything about politics or forming a political party. I just had an epiphany while going to sleep the other night, and this is the only place I know to vent it.
And, yes, I am a teacher. No, I have no personal aspirations of running for office. I know at least 20 better teachers than I for such a job, who have a much longer track record of stellar community service and smarts like you wouldn't believe.
tl;dr Stop electing politicians, plain and simple. Come up with a Teacher's Party. Start putting trusted people into office.
