I was teaching a class, and one girl in the class kept giving me trouble. I told her to go stand in the corner, and she didn't like that. When she sat back down she pulled out her phone, and I walked by her and said, "Lina, put the phone away."
She replied in Korean, "What? F***!"
At first, I didn't know what to do. I was a little sad that none of the other students cared enough to say anything, but I was really happy because I knew exactly what she was saying, and I had the power to do something about it.
After considering my options for a minute, I went to my boss and told her what the girl had said. My boss came into the classroom and talked to all the students in Korean and they confirmed that I was telling the truth.
The girl who'd said it was surprised. I was pretty happy about that. I like to catch my enemies unawares.
In the end the boss took her out of class and then brought her back after 20 minutes and made her say sorry to me (which, even though I didn't understand it, sounded more like "I'm really sorry you caught me" than "I'm sorry"). She was crying up a storm, and it was kind of hard to teach class with her going on. At the end of class she walked up to the front and threw her vocabulary test on the pile to show me that she wasn't happy. I just didn't bother looking at her. When kids or other people are really mean to me, I like to treat them as if they barely exist. It's the harshest form of punishment I know.
So, after class, I felt bummed to have to deal with that situation, but at the same time I felt relieved that I'd finally given that girl what was coming to her.
The only problem is that I have that class again tomorrow. Good thing I've got a surplus of Q-tips at my disposal.
