Figuring things out

I remember being a little kid and asking my Uncle Randy, an ex-Marine, how he’d gotten a spider-web tattoo on his elbow. “Well,” he said, “I woke up one morning, and there it was.” I kept pressing the issue, unable to understand how one can receive a tattoo of a spider-web in the middle of the night without knowing it. My Uncle Randy stuck by his story though, claiming that one morning he woke up, and there it was.
It was not until recently that I finally used my college education and deductive reasoning skills to figure out exactly how my Uncle Randy woke up one day to find a spider-web tattoo on his arm. It was a satisfying realization. I’m kinda surprised it took this long though.
