Senator McCain, I don't know a lot about politics, but when I lived in Arizona (I'm currently based in Dubai now) you seemed like a good man to me, and I've always had a heart for Vietnam vets, so I've been proud to have you as my senator. I've been traveling the world these past few years, and while I make it a point to avoid politics in general, every now and again I meander haphazardly into such affairs. As of recent, I've been impressed with Sen. Sanders' views, and a lot of what he has to say: http://www.salon.com/technology/how_the_world_works/2010/12/10/bernie_sanders_epic_filibuster_rant
Now, you and I both know that politics is much like Hollywood; actors/politicians get into character, and for the duration of the film/term, they give the audience what the audience wants. So, perhaps Sen. Sanders is doing just that. And, perhaps not. I would ask that, while you may or may not fully support Sen. Sanders, you at least speak with Sen. Sanders concerning the tax cut and the continued existence of the middle class, among other things. I've found in my short life that while talking may get nothing done, at least it makes us consider.
Also, while I am at it, might I voice my support for Wikileaks, and hope that you agree with Representative Ron Paul's views and mine on this issue: http://www.theatlanticwire.com/features/view/feature/Ron-Paul-Vigorously-Defends-WikiLeaks-2734/
One last thing: might I apologize for not voting in any elections over the past four years. It is not that I am apathetic (perhaps this message proves otherwise). Yet, towards the end of college I had taken a slightly opposing view to my parents, who are staunch Republicans, in that I felt that the vast majority of politicians are power hungry, corrupted to the core, and have not the American people in mind, but merely their own continued political/financial existence. This is why I have been giving up my right to vote. I know the founding fathers deserve better respect than that, but could they possibly foresee the rampant corruption and debauchery that seems to have a stranglehold on those who are in power (politicians, media executives, and corporations, to name a few)?. Perhaps it is a bit vulgar, but I will include this link, because this is exactly how I feel, and those in my generation (I'm 28 years old) are quite familiar with this reference: http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s08e08-douche-and-turd
Regardless, I do apologize for not voting. Until I find a better recourse, I refuse to shoot in the dark, for fear that I might do more harm than good. Thank you for your time, and for listening to my slightly uneducated and humble opinions. I've asked you to consider my side of things, yet really, when it all comes down to it, I am just asking that you fight the good fight, and make us proud. May God bless you and keep you and your family.
Sincerely,
Ryan Hellmann
