Well, for some, Dubai is all about living it up. For some.
Anyways, check this out: Have you ever heard the one about a Tunisian, an Egyptian, an Indian, and an American?
Yeah, me neither, until about a week ago. Since Song's company provides her apartment and puts a limit on how long visitors can stay, I had to find some new housing. Using dubizzle.com, I found a place that's about a $3.00 taxi ride away from her place, in a slightly rundown part of town. I mean, don't get me wrong: it's not like that one time in Korea when I was about a 3 minute walk away from the red light district. But, yeah, it's kinda like that.
I'm paying almost $400 a month to stay in a two bedroom apartment. An Indian guy lives in one room, and then the Tunisian, Egyptian and me sleep in the other room. Honestly, I never envisioned that at the age of 28, this is where I'd be. But, apparently, this is where I am.
No, it wasn't my only option. Alternatively, I could've paid about $1000 a month to get a small, unfurnished one bedroom apartment, but my pride and wallet weren't game for that.
I've always been somewhat of a story connoisseur anyways, you know?
So far, I can't say that a lot's happened in the first few days, but I'm keeping my eyes open. One thing that's kinda odd is that there was absolutely no toilet paper in either of the two bathrooms. Even for three guys, that's kinda odd. I'm highly suspicious that maybe none of them come from cultures that use toilet paper.
Aside from that, not much. A couple cockroaches here and there, and possibly not the cleanest way of washing dishes. I'm doing my best to just use this place as a place to sleep, and wait it out until I can come up with a better idea.
And, yes, that's traveling. Not much to it. Just a lack of money and not much else.
