This week in Dubai

Well, it's been pretty hectic at school this week, as KHDA has been inspecting the school and classrooms. They're an organization that grades schools, and they're being paid by the government to inspect our school and give it a grade. I can't say as it's affected me as much as my colleagues though. In fact, the only reason I'm writing about it is that it's actually been the most eventful part of my week.

The next thing worth mentioning is that one of my 8th graders made a poem about me and my chest hair.

What else....

I've been taking on a lot of substitute postings within the school. They pay about $20 a period, and so far this week I've been able to manage about 2 a day.

Oh yeah....Song and I looked up "simple dinner ideas" last night at around 5 pm. Three hours later we finally finished preparing the "simple" lasagna dinner, and it was awesome. I've honestly never made lasagna before in my life, so I was really surprised with how good it tasted. In fact, it was so good that I didn't even bother heating it up for lunch today.

So, are you disappointed that I'm not putting up more about how amazing Dubai is? I actually had a great opportunity for a picture at the beginning of the week: Song and I had gone down to the big market/tourist trap on Sunday, and we somehow ended up in some hidden shop with loads of fake designer clothes. I bought a "Burberry" shirt for about $30, and some "Armani" pants for about the same. Looking back, I realized that I should've taken pictures, but the shop was too small and out of the way to fully represent on film. Our Pakistani "guide" who'd convinced us to follow him there was interesting too; apparently he corrals customers into those shops and the shops pay him a percentage. Interesting. Haven't seen that sort of thing since I was in Panama.

Well, sorry for the lack of Dubai pictures, but honestly I've been putting in some really long days. Somehow a 70% load is pushing me to my limits. Huh.
