I injured a child by knocking him over yesterday. He was really excited to see me, and I was excited to see him, so I bent down to grab him and pick him up, but he got really scared and moved backward and hit his head on the ground.

I've been working with kids for over 10 years now, and although I've cut down on injuries to kids a lot over that period of time, I still end up poking the occasional kid in the eye or accidentally hitting some kid's nose with candy and leaving a bruise.

But, that's one of the things I've come to learn in this profession: If you work with kids, you're gonna end up hurting them. It's a simple truth. It's a fact of life. I mean, I don't really worry about if I'm going to hurt a kid because I know that eventually, I'm going to do it. I just worry about how often I end up doing it.

I think there's a deeper meaning that this rule can be used for, but I can't quite get a grasp on it right now. Maybe something like "If you live life, you're gonna do bad things."
Well, that actually sounds pretty lame.
How about "If you drive a car, you're gonna hit someone"?
Hmmm. Perhaps my philosophy fairy is on vacation.

Anyways, in an unrelated note, on Monday a group of my 11 year-old boys started class off by saying different syllables of one word one by one. One boy said "gkay" and then another boy said "sayk" and then another boy said "ee" and then the last one say "uh."
They did this in a round for about half a minute, and then I finally realized that they were saying a really bad word in Korean and I told them to be quiet. I thought it was pretty smart though.
