I really couldn't care less if I never make another Korean guy friend for the rest of my life.
You see, on average I get about 10 offers a month from various Korean guys who want to hang out and show me the city and lots of other really cool stuff. I mean, it's nice in a way that everybody wants to be best buddies with me and hang out all the time, but it doesn't really work when you start realizing that there aren't enough days in a month to hang out with everyone who wants to.
Also, it's creepy how Korean guys try to get me to be friends with them. Their idea of how to make friends is to tell me that they want to hang out with me all the time (even though I've never met them before) or that they want me to teach them English (already do that 40 hours a week). I mean, I understand that they're desperate for foreign friends, but they don't seem to understand how to make friends normally.
Take this past weekend for example: Met one guy Friday night who told me about 5 times in 30 minutes that I should give him a call if I'm ever bored. Met another guy on Sunday that would've hung out and talked all day if I hadn't told him that I had to meet other friends.
The best one was a couple months ago when I was exiting a restaurant and some random dude catches me as I'm leaving and starts talking about how he studied in the Philippines and he wants to be best friends with me and learn English from me.
Maybe I'm not making this sound annoying enough.
Let's see if I can put this another way: I've been here six months and still don't see anything resembling a girlfriend on the horizon. Hanging out with a bunch of dudes who only introduce me to other dudes is the last thing I need.
And that, right there, is the thing that kills me. Korean culture dictates that you can't meet girls unless a mutual friend introduces you. Yet, of the friends I have, I would say very few want me to meet a girl, because if I met a girl who I really liked then I would end up spending more time with the girl and less time with them.
Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is.
I'm tired of being the trophy wife.
