Ad Hominem

I found out that there's a documentary out called "Expelled" (http://www.expelledthemovie.com/video.php) that talks about the creation/evolution debate. The premise is that the scientists in America who believe that God created everything are being discriminated against in the form of job and tenure loss, and that the educational system is vehemently opposed to even offering the possibility that such a thing happened.
The film interviews scientists on both sides of the debate. One of the scientists interviewed is a guy named Richard Dawkins. Apparently, he's a well-known British scientist...I think. At the time of the interview he didn't know what he was getting into. As time progressed, he ended up finding out what the film was really about, and went to a showing of it. Another scientist/blogger went with him, but was, ironically, refused entry into the theater. Dawkins then wrote a huge 'review' of the film and complained about the mistreatment of his fellow scientist: http://www.richarddawkins.net/article,2394,Lying-for-Jesus,Richard-Dawkins

Why am I telling you this? To begin with, I truly do believe that there is a growing hatred of people who bring God into the mix (I'm not talking just about science, either). I have my hunches about what's right and what's wrong in the creation/evolution debate, but I honestly admit that I don't really know what went on all those billions (thousands?) of years ago. This leaves me curious as to what the whole truth is.
The problem is that my curiosity in these matters is often destroyed by people's petty games, like the feud between the film makers and Mr. Dawkins. It seems both sides are trying to take things out of context and discredit each other by name calling and mud slinging. Such behavior only manages to taint and confuse the facts of the real matter at hand, leaving me to realize that after a couple hours of research, I am no more enlightened about the creation/evolution debate than when I first started.
